Partnership on AI (PAI) An independent nonprofit bringing together academic, civil society, industry, and media organizations to develop tools, recommendations, and guidance for responsible AI. PAI is not a trade group or advocacy organization – it conducts independent research on AI’s societal impacts and develops actionable best practices. Its April 2025 initiative on responsible enterprise AI adoption provides guidance for organizations scaling AI. Members include major technology companies, civil society groups, and academic institutions.
IAPP AI Governance Center The International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) operates an AI Governance Center offering expert content, training, certification, and practical tools for AI governance professionals. The Center maintains a comprehensive library of regulatory guidance, model templates, and comparative analyses of global AI regulation.
IAPP AI Governance Professional (AIGP) Certification: The AIGP is the leading professional credential in AI governance, covering AI development principles, ethical AI deployment, risk management frameworks, and regulatory requirements. It is the recognized benchmark credential for practitioners building organizational AI governance programs.
Responsible AI Institute A nonprofit offering AI governance certification, auditing tools, and practical guidance for organizations across sectors. The Institute works with organizations to assess, certify, and improve AI systems against responsible AI standards.
AI Now Institute A research institute at New York University focused on the social implications of AI – examining algorithmic accountability, bias in automated systems, and AI in public institutions. Publishes influential annual reports on the state of AI accountability.
Ada Lovelace Institute A UK-based independent research institute focused on ensuring data and AI work for people and society. Conducts evidence-based research and policy analysis on AI accountability, algorithmic harms, and governance design.
Stanford HAI (Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence) Stanford University’s interdisciplinary AI research center. Publishes the annual AI Index Report – the most comprehensive data-driven survey of AI development, deployment, safety, and governance globally. An essential reference for any governance professional.
Mila – Quebec AI Institute Based in Montreal, Mila is home to more than 1,200 researchers in machine learning and is one of Canada’s three national AI institutes supported by CIFAR’s Pan-Canadian AI Strategy. Mila conducts foundational AI research and engages on responsible AI through applied ethics research and public education.
Vector Institute for Artificial Intelligence Toronto-based, with a network of 950+ AI researchers and faculty. Vector works with industry partners – including 30+ major organizations – to advance responsible AI adoption. It offers AI governance resources, training programs, and connection to Canada’s leading AI research community.
CIFAR (Canadian Institute for Advanced Research) Leads the Pan-Canadian AI Strategy – the world’s first national AI strategy – through its three national AI institutes (Mila in Montreal, Vector Institute in Toronto, Amii in Edmonton). CIFAR’s Canada CIFAR AI Chairs program recruits and retains leading global AI researchers to Canadian institutions.
Schwartz Reisman Institute for Technology and Society Based at the University of Toronto. Conducts interdisciplinary research on AI governance, publishes accessible policy analysis, and has directly engaged with Canada’s regulatory development process. Publishes resources on AI safety institute design, AI certification, and responsible AI adoption for startups.
Future of Privacy Forum A Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit that works across industry, academia, and government on data privacy and AI governance. Publishes analyses of state, national, and international AI regulations, including the South Korea AI Basic Act, Colorado AI Act, and EU AI Act.
World Economic Forum The WEF’s Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution develops practical guidance on AI governance for business and government leaders globally. Its publications on deepfake fraud, AI systemic risk, and governance frameworks are widely cited across executive audiences.
